Glenna Neill Obituary

Mrs. Glenna Ashley Neill Passed away on March 22, 2023 after a brief illness.  Glenna was born on October 2, 1939 in Mohawk, TN to Lonnie A. and Lenor Riley Ashley.  She was a graduate of Berea College in Berea, Kentucky where she majored in Education.  Glenna loved her years at Berea and especially her time working at Boone Tavern.

On June 24, 1961, Glenna Married Joseph Robert Neill of Warrensburg, TN.  Shortly after Joe’s graduation from the University of Tennessee, he accepted his commission in the U.S. Army, and they embarked on their military adventures.  They especially enjoyed Ft. Sill and Ft. Lewis and made lifelong friends during this time as newlyweds.  Upon their return to Warrensburg, Glenna began her teaching career at McDonald School followed by time at West Greene High School.  In 1972, Glenna began teaching at Greenville High School where she taught until her retirement in 1996.  She taught Economics, Typing, Shorthand, and Accounting.  She was very proud of her students, and many went on to become successful CPAs and CFOs as well as teachers following in her footsteps.  During her time at GHS, she completed her Masters in Education at East Tennessee State University.

Glenna was a member of the Greenville Cumberland Presbyterian Church for many years and taught children’s Sunday school.

Glenna was predeceased by her parents, Lonnie A. and Lenor Riley Ashley, her brother, James Clyde Ashley, and infant daughter, Sunny Lee Neill.  She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Joe Neill, her brother, J.D. Ashley (Shirley), sister-in-law, Rachel Ashley, brother-in-law, Bill Neill, her daughter, Ashley Neill Stamper (Todd) of Knoxville, her son, Sam Neill (Amy) of Mohawk.  Her grandchildren are Riley Stamper (Analisa Stratienko), Jones Stamper, Charlie Neill, and Jake Neill.  Family brought Glenna the greatest joy, and her grandsons were the lights of her life.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude to her caregivers who cared so lovingly for Glenna over the past five years:  Courtney Herman, Tracy Rayburn, Paula Jarnigan, Ester Gardner, and Melissa Neff.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration for Glenna’s life at 2:00 on Tuesday, March 28 at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 601 West Main Street, Morristown, TN 37814 followed by a graveside service at Mohawk Cemetery at 4 p.m.  Receiving of friends will begin at 1 p.m. at All Saints’ Episcopal Church before the service at 2 p.m.  In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to All Saints’ Episcopal School, 3275 Maple Valley Road, Morristown, TN  37813.
